Whisky Trail Bars

The Grill is an unlikely name for a bar and yet, in Aberdeen, it is synonymous with all that is best about Scotland's traditional, family-owned pubs.

Originally established as a restaurant in 1870, from whence it takes its name, and converted to a pub some time later, it has remained virtually unchanged since 1926, making it one of Aberdeen's olldest pubs. In their listing of Pub Interiors of Outstanding Historic Interest, CAMRA included The Grill as the only Scottish entry north of Dundee. Many generations of resident and returning Aberdonians have quenched their thirst in its comfortable and congenial atmosphere. The Grill has recently been recognised as having one of the finest collections of whiskies around, currently offering a selection of over 400, some 40 of which are from around the world furth of Scotland, including Japan, Ireland and America. The bar was named "Bar of the Year 2008" by Whisky Magazine and several of the staff have gained Certificates of Expertise in the Sales and Service of Scotch Whisky.

In addition to the range of whiskies, a good selection of ales is offered as well as a range of tasty bar snacks including Aberdeen's famous pies, stovies and oatcakes. The Grill is a standing pub, with very little seating. It does, though, have a very l-o-o-o-ng bar and an impressive ceiling. Due to its central location, it is the ideal meeting point in the city prior to a meal or the theatre.
